This is part of a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. Many things had to be repaired and replaced over time, including this treadle. Over years of being stepped on to pull up the shafts and warp, the end of this treadle wore away and the middle started to fracture. To fix this, a piece of tongue-in-groove plank was bolted to the end to prolong its life.
